We are no longer accepting applications for our fee assistance grant to renew DACA as we have exhausted all available funds.

IMPORTANT: Due to limited funding, as of January 15, 2018 at 7 PM Pacific, we are placing new applications received on a waitlist. We will also prioritize DACA renewals for recipients whose EAD has already expired or will soon. Meanwhile, we encourage you to seek support from other sources and will notify applicants on our waitlist as additional funds become available.

***LAST UPDATE - FEBRUARY 5, 2018***

  • We are no longer accepting applications for our fee assistance grant to renew DACA as we have exhausted all available funds.

  • In January 2018, a federal judge issued an order that the Trump administration must maintain the DACA program. USCIS is currently accepting DACA renewal applications from:
    • Any DACA recipient whose permit expired September 5, 2016 or later (whose renewal has not yet been processed OR who has received guidance to re-submit).
    • Any DACA recipient whose permit expired before September 5, 2016 may be eligible to submit an “initial DACA application.”

How it Works

1. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ELIGIBLE

  • If your DACA work permit expires after September 5, 2016, you may be eligible to renew
  • Be sure to follow any specific guidance from USCIS and your immigration attorney
  • Get your DACA renewal paperwork ready (visit Immi.org if you need help)
  • Stay informed on breaking news about DACA

2. GET APPROVED FOR GRANT

  • Fill out the online application to get pre-approved for a fee assistance grant
  • Upload a clear picture of your work permit (EAD) or USCIS approval letter and your current photo ID
  • You will receive emails from us confirming the status of your grant application
  • Respond quickly to any requests from MAF for any missing or other information

3. RECEIVE YOUR CHECK & SEND IN YOUR RENEWAL

  • If you are approved, MAF will mail you a check made out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security within a few days
  • Send your completed renewal paperwork and MAF's check to the appropriate USCIS filing center based on where you live
  • Important! Do not sign the check or cash it - it must be sent “as is” to USCIS
  • Share your story & keep us updated on the status of your filing

Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED TO LIVE IN A CERTAIN AREA OR BE A STUDENT TO RECEIVE DACA FEE ASSISTANCE FROM MAF?
MAF’s financial assistance grant is available nationwide and is not restricted to students. If demand exceeds available funds, we will make sure to update the website with this new information.

CAN I GET REIMBURSED IF I ALREADY RENEWED DACA?
MAF is only able to offer a fee assistance grant in the form of a check made payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. As such, we are not able to issue reimbursements at this time.

I AM WORKING WITH AN ATTORNEY - CAN THEY APPLY FOR A FEE ASSISTANCE GRANT ON MY BEHALF?
While attorneys can assist you in applying for a fee assistance grant, each applicant, must provide a personal email address. Email addresses of attorneys or legal service providers should not be used. Grant recipients may receive surveys and personalized resources; please provide an email address that is not shared with anyone else.

USCIS RETURNED MY APPLICATION AND ASKED ME TO RE-SUBMIT MY APPLICATION. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
The notice from USCIS will indicate what forms or information is needed from you. It is best to get advice from a legal services provider before sending in a revised DACA application to USCIS. When you complete your application for a financial assistance grant with MAF, please upload a copy of your previous USCIS rejection notice and indicate the date of the notice.

WHAT DOES A COMPLETE DACA RENEWAL APPLICATION LOOK LIKE? |
Generally, you must submit the $495 filing fee along with three completed USCIS forms (I-821 D - Consideration of DACA, I-765 Application for Work Authorization, I-765 WS), which along with original signatures, passport sized photos and any additional documentation needed for your particular case. That may include a USCIS notice inviting you to re-submit, proof that your application was originally rejected due to a delay by USPS or copies of your court-related documents if you had any encounters with law enforcement. Consult a legal service provider to avoid unnecessary delays or headaches.

IF MY DACA APPLICATION WAS REJECTED OR IT EXPIRED BEFORE SEPTEMBER 5, 2016, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
At this time, MAF can not provide fee assistance if your work permit (EAD) expired before September 5, 2016.

In the case that your application was rejected, please contact a legal service provider for advice. It’s possible that you may qualify for other forms of long-term immigration relief, so it’s important that you get screened to know your options.
