LENDING CIRCLES FOR DEFERRED ACTION

With nearly one million youth eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), promising young people can now obtain protection from deportation and access to work permits. But a hefty application fee stands in their way. Using social lending, our Lending Circles program organizes DREAMers to lend and borrow money with each other to finance their application fee. A first step towards securing their future, DACA helps participants pursue higher education, meaningful employment, and a real chance to contribute to our country.

And now, with the newly expanded Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program, parents of children who are citizens or green card holders can apply for Deferred Action to obtain temporary relief from deportation, access to driver’s licenses, work permits, and more.

How it Works

Lending Circles for Deferred Action¬†provides a zero-interest loan to help participants pay the $465 application fee for DACA or DAPA. Participants take our online financial training class and build credit by making payments of $46.50 for 10 months. As soon as participants are ready to apply for DACA, we give them a check made out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. When participants receive DACA, they will receive a work permit, become eligible for a Social Security number, and obtain protection from deportation. Plus, they’ll have an improved credit score and financial savviness to help build a brighter future.
